Afesis-corplan is a vibrant, dynamic development NGO situated in East London. We are recognised as pioneers in deepening participatory democracy and good local governance, community development and alternative settlement development approaches since 1992. The broad aim is to support citizens to actively unlock and enhance the state’s potential to deliver responsive services and targeted development initiatives.

The organisation seeks to fill a challenging and exciting Programme Officer position.  Candidates should have a post graduate degree in Social Science, preferably in Urban Planning or Human Settlements. Consideration will also be given to Development Studies.

Candidates should have a sound understanding of urban planning and human settlement issues.  An understanding of national, provincial and local government policies and processes related to these issues will be an added advantage. They should also demonstrate an interest in expanding their capabilities and knowledge in one of these fields.

Candidates should have some exposure to working in a government, private sector or civil society environment, and be able to demonstrate an aptitude in project management. One should also have good communication skills (both written and verbal) and a good command of isiXhosa and the English language.  A driver’s licence is a requirement for this position.

The salary offered for the position is market related commensurate with experience.
