Afesis is a development NGO based in East London, established in 1983. Our work focuses on:

• Strengthening participatory local governance

About the Internship

The Afesis internship programme offers experiential learning through active involvement in our programmes. Interns will work closely with experienced programme staff and contribute to real projects that impact communities.

Internship Details

• Duration: 12 months (1 June 2026 – 31 May 2027)
• Location: East London (Afesis Office)
• Stipend: R13,500 per month (subject to statutory deductions)

 Key Responsibilities

The intern will:

• Support programme implementation across Afesis focus areas
• Assist with research, documentation, and reporting
• Contribute to community engagement initiatives
• Support communications, including social media and content creation

 Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in:
  • Development Studies
  • Urban Planning
  • Political Science
  • Communication
• Valid driver’s license

 Preferred Attributes

• Passionate about social justice and community development
• Energetic, proactive, and self-motivated
• A strong communicator with good writing skills
• Social media savvy (advantage)
• Values-driven and aligned with Afesis’ mission
